Bank of China Pataca Banknotes (2003 Edition)

Bank of China Pataca banknotes (2003 edition) were put into circulation in 2004 and 2005. The design (image, colour and size) of the 2003 edition is basically the same as the 1995 edition. In addition, a number of advanced security features have been added to enhance their anti-counterfeiting capability.

Security Features Introduction
Magnetic Micro-printing Security Thread When the banknote is held up against the light, the logo of Bank of China and denomination numeral will appear on both sides of the banknote.
Holographic Windowed Security Thread A 3mm-wide security thread with holographic images is woven on the front of banknote. When the banknote is viewed sideways under light, the words of “Bank of China” and the logo of Bank of China will appear with changing colours.
Highlight Watermark A highly bright watermark of the denomination numeral will show when the banknote is held up against light.
Intaglio Printing Lines A group of intaglio printing finger-feel lines is printed at the left top corner on the front of banknote, giving lumpy feeling in touch.
Banknote’s Serial Number Two identical serial numbers of the banknote are printed on the face side: one is printed on the left with a group of ascending figures, another is printed at the bottom on the right with a group of gradually changing symmetric figures with two different colours.
Fluorescent Fibers Yellow and blue fibers randomly embedded in the paper will become visible under ultraviolet light.
Denomination Numeral in Optical Variable Ink(This specific feature only apply to 100, 500, 1000 Pataca banknotes) The colour of the denomination numeral will shift between magenta and green at the right bottom corner of the backside when the banknote is viewed sideways at different angles.
Iridescent Images(This specific feature only apply to 100, 500, 1000 Pataca banknotes) A shimmering iridescent image of Lotus will show on the backside when the banknote is viewed sideways under bright light.
Intaglio See-through Features(This specific feature only apply to 10, 20 Pataca banknotes) When the banknote is held up against the light, the lines of both sides of the banknotes will form an entire Lotus image and the denomination numeral, and the lines on the face side will give lumpy feeling in touch.
