Bank of China donates RMB 2 million to support the relief and rebuilding efforts in the flood-affected Hainan Province, when attending the big charity party of We Are Together that is organized by Hainan provincial government and the provincial Party committee the other day.
Hainan Province is recently hit by the worst flood in 60-year return period. Over 90% of the area, including 16 cities and 202 towns (neighborhoods) has been flooded with over 2.7 million residents affected. In the worst-hit eastern area, most towns and villages have been flushed by flood.
Bank of China staff are transferring customer papers, funds and important blank vouchers in waist-deep water.
Shortly after the disaster, the bank promptly activated the emergency response plan to go all out for the flood resistance and relief work and the protection of people and property. In the morning of October 6, the staff of Hainan Branch (the Branch) rushed to the seriously-affected Wenchang and stood in waist-deep water with local colleagues to transfer customer papers, funds and important blank vouchers, and finally ensured the safety of customer deposits.
On October 7, in response to the immobilization of the local escort system caused by the flooded streets in Wenchang, the Branch quickly mobilized its own security and escort forces to ensure the normal operation of Wenchang outlets, becoming the first financial institution locally to serve the public in the aftermath of the flood.

Apart from the efforts on resisting the flood damage and sustaining the normal operation of business, the staff of the Branch dedicate themselves to aiding the disaster relief and have donated over RMB 260,000 accumulatively to the flood-affected areas as of October 13, 2010.
