Bank of China Supports the 2010 "Show the World" Goodwill Action:


——民族手工藝尋訪之旅在京正式啟動 Chinese Ethnic Handicraft Collection Tour Launches in Beijing

On July 5, 2010, the 2010 Chinese Ethnic Handicraft Collection Tour, as part of "Show the World" - Chinese Ethnic Culture Preservation and Development Goodwill Action, was launched at Bank of China's Head Office Building. The launch ceremony was attended by industry celebrities such as Mr. Li Lihui, President of Bank of China, Ms. Zhu Zheqin, initiator of "Show the World" program and Chinese National Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Ms. Silvia Morimoto, Deputy Country Director of UNDP China, Mr. Yue Yi, President of Bank of China Financial Market Business, Mr. Alan Chan, an internationally renowned designer, Mr. Ye Jintian, a world-famous artist, and Mr. Hang Jian, Vice-President of Tsinghua Academy of Fine Arts.

At the launch ceremony, President Li Lihui of Bank of China, together with Ms. Zhu Zheqin, Ms. Silvia Morimoto, Mr. Yue Yi, Mr. Alan Chan and Mr. Hang Jian , on behalf of "Chinese Ethnic Culture Preservation and Development Goodwill Action", stamped the seal that bears eight large Chinese characters meaning "Show the World Beauty of China".

Mr. Li Lihui stressed, "Culture is the root of a nation, the soul of a state, the source of national creativity and cohesion, and an important embodiment of the comprehensive national power." As a typical large state-owned bank, Bank of China has always been taking the preservation and promotion of the Chinese nation's fine cultures as part of its commitment towards corporate social responsibility. Making use of its international networks and diversified business platforms, the bank plays an active role in the culture and arts public welfare projects to promote the development of Chinese cultural industry and the Sino-foreign cultural exchanges.

Introducing details of the 2010 Chinese Ethnic Handicraft Collection Tour working plan at the ceremony, Ms. Zhu Zheqin expected to preserve and develop the ethnic handcrafts by the activity, which is also an integral part of "Show the World" Goodwill Action. Specifically, she will bring the A-list Chinese artists, designers and media together to put forward a collaboration scheme concerning the development and marketing of national handicraft design works, so as to show the charming and invaluable Chinese ethnic handicraft works by a modern design. 10% of the proceeds from the sale of related products will be donated to the "1+5" ethnic culture inheritance program to cultivate inheritors of local ethnic cultural heritages. By the practical and successful inheritors' cases, the activity will call for more talents and social resources to concern and participate in the preservation and development of Chinese ethnic culture.

Ms. Silvia Morimoto, Deputy Director of UNDP China, commented in her address to the launch on the tour's objective, saying, "the tour will showcase the beauty in traditional ethnic handicraft, enhance communication between ethnic minority regions and the outside world, effectively harnesses the power of culture revival as an engine for development of ethnic minority regions."

The Chinese Ethnic Culture Preservation and Development Goodwill Action is one of the important programs supported by Bank of China that aim to promote Chinese culture and arts around the world. Bank of China has always been active in participating in such kind of projects for promoting the development of culture and arts. In 2008, Bank of China established a long-term strategic cooperative partnership with the China National Centre for the Performing Arts. In 2009, the bank became the first complete partner for the "Show the World" – Chinese Ethnic Culture Preservation and Development Goodwill Action co-sponsored by UNDP and Ms. Zhu Zheqin.

In 2010, Bank of China became a member of Board of Directors of the U.S. Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, supported the "Chinese" photograph exhibition of famous photographer Mr. Deng Wei at Shanghai World Expo in co-sponsorship with the China Federation of Literature and Art Circles, and supported Zhu Zheqin to launch "Show the World" - Chinese Ethnic Handicraft Collection Tour.

Maintaining diversified cooperation with the arts and culture circles, Bank of China exerts great influence on promoting and broadcasting Chinese arts and culture across the world.
