Recently, Bank of China joined hands with Lions Clubs International, an international service community, to initiate an art education program for migrant workers' children at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Beijing. It is another social welfare activity sponsored by Bank of China through the strategic cooperation platform with the Center.
In recent years, schools for the children of migrant workers in Beijing have witnessed continuous improvement in schoolhouses and other facilities under unremitting efforts of the government and society. In order to offer children an access to high art and enrich their school life, Bank of China and the Lions Clubs International launched this program based on the strategic cooperation platform between the bank and NCPA to provide the children with opportunities to enjoy art lectures in NCPA.
More than 120 teachers and students from schools for migrant workers' children in Chaoyang District of Beijing participated in the program. Led by the youth volunteers of Bank of China and members of Lions Clubs International, the teachers and students visited the NCPA and attended the lecture of "How to Appreciate Operas" given by Professor Hao Weiya from Central Conservatory of Music. Teachers and staff of the schools responded warmly to the program, saying that they cherished this opportunity given by Bank of China very much and would transfer the knowledge of art to more students in the future. Students were also very excited about the bright and great halls of the NCPA and deeply impressed by Professor Hao's simplified explanation of profound theories. "We will come here to give performances when growing up," said the students when they reluctantly left the NCPA.
According to the plan of Bank of China and the Lions Clubs International, this program will be continued in the NCPA this year to expose more students and teachers from schools for migrant workers' children to high art. Attachment: Introduction to Lions Clubs International
Lions Clubs International, the world's largest service organization, was founded in the U.S.A. in 1917, with 46,000 clubs and 1.4 million members in 193 countries.
In the word "LIONS", "L" stands for "Liberty", "I" for "Intelligence", "O" for "Our", N for "Nation's" and "S" for "Safety". These initials together are "LIONS", with the same spelling as "lions". So the Chinese translation is "Shizi ("lion" in English) Hui".
Lions Clubs International entered China on May 14, 2002 as the first international service community to establish offices in China's mainland under the approval by the Chinese Government.
