The "Donation Ceremony for Taiwan Afflicted Areas" is held by the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS) in the Taiwan Affairs Office on August 12. Bank of China's President Li Lihui attends the ceremony and denotes RMB 5 million on behalf of the bank.
Recently, typhoon Morakot raged in south-central Taiwan and caused secondary disasters such as rainstorm and mudslides, resulting in 62 people dead and nearly 100 others missing or injured by the evening of August 11, as well as a great loss in Taiwan's agriculture, livestock husbandry and fishery.
With a deep concern about the affected compatriots, Bank of China donates RMB 5 million by emergency procedures to help them go through the hard time. The money will be delivered to the afflicted areas by the ARATS.

In the ceremony, President Li Lihui gives a speech as the sole representative of all enterprises. He said, "When disaster struck, help came from all sides", it is a glorious tradition of the Chinese nation as well as the social responsibility of corporate citizens. With the same ancestor and the same root, the homeland people are caring for the afflicted areas in Taiwan tightly in face of unprecedented natural disasters. Bank of China, together with all responsible enterprises, is willing to join hands with Taiwan compatriots in overcoming the difficulties, and wishes the Taiwan compatriots early rebuild their home.
