General Administration of Sport of China (GASC) is soliciting for the logo and slogan for China's "National Fitness Day" from home and abroad based on its overall plan on the "National Fitness Day" campaigns and the State Council's Written Reply Regarding the Approval of Designating "National Fitness Day". The day, falling on August 8, is aimed to help spread scientific fitness knowledge and encourage public participation in fitness to strengthen the role of the campaigns in the all-round development of nationals and the social harmony.

II. Requirements for Entries
The entries should carry distinct symbolic features and create appeal for national fitness. In addition to reflecting the unique features of nationwide fitness campaigns, the entries should also embody the spirit of nationwide participation beneficial to everyone, fully demonstrate China's far-reaching culture of mass sports and national sports and combine Chinese characteristics with the world trends. There are no particular requirements on style or format, but all entries must be original and haven't been published in any form before.
1. Logo entries: Rich in connotation, novel and original, simple and bright. The whole design should be aesthetically pleasing, dynamic and modern, with strong artistic appeal, visual appeal and multi-purpose application including printed publicity materials, clothing, appliances and sports fields. The design draft should be accompanied by a text description of specified length.
2. Slogan entries: Simple and vivid, resounding and powerful, appealing, easily to be remembered, spoken and spread, the slogan should accurately and concisely summarize the theme of the "National Fitness Day" and reflect today's Chinese characteristics. Entries can be accompanied by a text description of specified length.
III. Design Requirements
1. Logo entries: Colors involved in the design should be no more than four. Composition of entries must be of originality compliant with standard rules. With clear and smooth pattern as well as simple and elegant colors, the implied meaning should be logical and impressive. As the logo will be reproduced in different mediums across a variety of environments, the entry should allow different sizes. The entry, if submitted electronically, should be in JPG format within 600×800 pixels and 500KB. If the entry is submitted in hard copy, the size of the printing paper should be standard 8K or 16K.
2. Slogan entries: An electronic version of either text or graphic work can be submitted in the format of JPG. The graph should be 600×800 pixels, with a maximum file size of 500KB. If the entry is submitted in hard copy, the size of the printing paper should be standard 8K or 16K.
IV. Notes for Entries
1. The entries must not violate any laws and regulations.
2. The submitted works must be obviously different from the logos and slogans of all previous Olympic Games, Asian Games and other major events at home and abroad. Moreover, the entry must not be the same or similar to an emblem or slogan of any country or region including China.
3. Any entries or works designed for this selection should not infringe upon the intellectual property rights of any third party.
4. The entries should not contain any contents which may hint at national discrimination, religious discrimination, threatening of international relations or violation of social morality.
V. Requirements for Applicants
The solicitation is open to all professional and amateur designers at home and abroad. Participation can be in the name of an organization or an individual.
VI. Entry Submission
The participating organizations and individuals must provide the following materials and documents (handwritten form is invalid except for signature) when submitting the entries:
1. Copies of profile of the participants (including their previous awards) and design idea;
2. Name of the participants, mailing address, contact number and a copy of valid individual identity documents or related qualification certificates if the entry is submitted in the name of an organization;
3. Signed Copyright Confirmation Letter (the letter can be downloaded from the websites of General Administration of Sport of China (http://www.sport.gov.cn), Bank of China (a corporate partner for "National Fitness Day", http://www.boc.cn) and Sina (the leading Internet media corporate partner, http://sports.sina.com.cn/z/qmjsday));
4. The electronic version of the entry as well as the profile and personal information of the participant should be sent to qmjsday@vip.sina.com; the following materials must be sent in hardcopy via post: original copy of the application form (with signed Copyright Confirmation Letter), a copy of valid identity documents of an individual participant or a copy of qualification certificates of participant who submits an entry in the name of an organization;
5. Envelope marked with "Submission for Logo and Slogan for "National Fitness Day"" (mailing address: #301, China Sports Newspaper Headquarters, No.8, Gymnasium Rd., Chongwen District, Beijing 100061 (Solicitation for National Fitness Day));
6. No entries will be returned. Participants are recommended to keep copies of their submissions.
VII. Selection Process
The organizer will set up an expert committee to appraise all entries. The committee will make an initial appraisal, review and final appraisal over each entry based on detailed discussion and comparison. The final result will be reported to the General Administration of Sport of China for final approval and announcement. The entire selection process will be fully notarized by a public notary office.
VIII. Awards
1. Prizes for logos: top 100 participants will be awarded with certificates and souvenirs; top three shortlisted participants will be awarded RMB 5,000 and certificates of recognition; the final winner will be granted with RMB 30,000 and a certificate of recognition.
2. Prizes for slogans: top 1,000 participants will be awarded with certificates and souvenirs; top three shortlisted participants will be awarded with RMB 5,000 and certificates of recognition; the final winner will be granted with RMB 30,000 and a certificate of recognition.
All costs arising from the solicitation should be borne by the participants themselves.
All prize winners are obliged to pay taxes according to relevant regulations of the state.
IX. Ownership of Submitted Works
Except for the right of authorship, all other intellectual rights of the selected logo and slogan for the "National Fitness Day" shall belong to the General Administration of Sport of China. Besides the right of necessary modification to the design, the General Administration of Sport of China reserves the right to determine the occasions, means and time of applying the selected works. The GASC will not pay any additional fee to the author except the prize money.
X. Deadline, Announcement of Selection Results and Contact Information
The entries must be delivered or mailed to the organizer, China Sports Newspaper Headquarters, before May 29, 2009 (delivery date is subject to local postmark). The selection results will be unveiled in June 2009.
