Bank of China (Hong Kong ) Limited (Bank of China Hong Kong), a subsidiary of Bank of China, announces that by May 30, HKD 23.95 million had been raised for the quake-hit areas in Sichuan via the dedicated disaster relief account set up by the Bank of China Hong Kong Charitable Foundation, including HKD 2.23 million from Bank of China Hong Kong Group's staff and HKD 21.72 million from the bank's customers and Hong Kong citizens. The entire sum has been handed over in batches to the Hong Kong Red Cross through which the donation will be delivered. In addition, Bank of China Hong Kong Group has donated a total of HKD 10 million, which will be delivered to the disaster region through the Hong Kong Red Cross and the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong.
The severity of the earthquake makes it crucial for post-disaster reconstruction to make continuous donations. Therefore, Bank of China Hong Kong decides to extend operation of the dedicated disaster relief account of the Charitable Foundation to June 30, 2008 to collect more donations.
