Concerning about Sichuan earthquake victims, Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited (BOCHK), and its subsidiaries, namely Nanyang Commercial Bank (Nanyang) and Chiyu Banking Corporation Limited (Chiyu), respectively donated HKD 5 million, HKD 1.2 million and HKD 800,000 on May 15 to the disaster relief account of Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong S.A.R. Including the donation delivered to the Hong Kong Red Cross on May 13, donations made by the Group for the rescue work and reconstruction of the afflicted areas has amounted to HKD 10 million.
Also on May 15, BOCHK Charitable Foundation presented the Hong Kong Red Cross with a total donation of HKD 7 million collected from customers, citizens and BOCHK staff to support those affected by the earthquake as soon as possible.
In the wake of the massive earthquake in Sichuan, BOCHK is the first Hong Kong institution to hand over donations to the Hong Kong Red Cross. By the afternoon of May 15, BOCHK has raised over HKD 6 million from its customers and the public via the disaster relief accounts set up on May 13, and nearly HKD 1 million from its 13,500 staff who made an immediate response to the appeal for donations by the Group.
BOCHK and its subsidiaries will continue collecting donations from its customers and the public via disaster relief accounts of BOCHK Charitable Foundation, Home Affairs Bureau of the Government of Hong Kong S.A.R., and other voluntary groups.
