At the donation ceremony, Ms. Zhang Yanling said, with the Chinese tradition of "concerted rescue for the suffered" in mind, that 260,000 domestic and overseas employees of Bank of China could deeply feel the hardship suffered by Sichuan quake victims. On the evening of May 12, the first donation of RMB 10 million was offered by the Bank to RCSC for disaster relief. Yesterday, a disaster relief panel led by Xiao Gang, Chairman of Bank of China, and Li Zaohang, Vice President of Bank of China, left for the quake-stricken area to offer guidance on disaster relief to local branches. After the studies on the latest disaster situations by the panel, the second donation of RMB 10 million was offered to the People's Government of Sichuan Province. With the contribution of HKD 3 million by BOCHK via Hong Kong Red Cross included, the bank has donated a total of nearly RMB 23 million to the quake-stricken area.
On behalf of people in the disaster area, Wang Rupeng expressed the appreciation for the goodwill of Bank of China. This earthquake, as he mentioned, had drawn attentions from the entire country. Bank of China gave a quick response to the unprecedented disaster with a donation of RMB 10 million, which demonstrated its strong will and determination to undertake social responsibilities as a large SOE. He was convinced that under the leadership by Chinese government, the earthquake relief was bound to succeed with united efforts made by the enterprises ready to help and the general public.
