Bank of China donated RMB 1.5 million to Hubei Province on February 3, 2008 in support of snow disaster relief. As commissioned by the Party Committee of Bank of China Head Office and on behalf of the Party Committee of Hubei Branch, Gao Xiaobo, a member of the Party Committee and the Secretary of the discipline inspection commission of Bank of China Hubei Branch, delivered the donation to the Department of Civil Affairs of Hubei Province. Besides, Gao also sent a letter of consolation to the Party Committee and the government of Hubei Province, expressing grave concern over the victims in the disaster areas.
Since mid-January 2008, the heaviest snow and ice disaster in the recent decades has posed serious threat to Hubei people's work and life. It is reported that the 17 cities (prefectures) are hit by the disaster with varying degree of damage, involving affected people of 22.783 million and direct economic loss of RMB 8.28 billion. Faced with the unexpected snowstorm, relevant authorities and 80 million people in Hubei under the leadership of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government, rise to the challenge and brave the frost with efficient and effective measures, thus minimizing economic loss and guaranteeing people's life and property.
To triumph over the disasters, people from all walks of life make concerted effort. As a brand enjoying 100 years of history, Bank of China is deeply concerned about the people in the disaster areas including Hubei Province and donates a total of RMB 10 million.
