On December 4, 2007, two gunmen followed a deposit customer and broke into a parking lot at the rear gate of Bank of China Jieyang Jinxian Sub-Branch. When the gunmen took out guns to rob, Lin Jianping, a guard of the sub-branch, timely showed up, bravely blocked the guns with his body, and saved the customer.
That day, Lin Jianping was on duty as usual in Bank of China Jieyang Jinxian Sub-Branch. A customer drove to a parking lot at the rear gate of the sub-branch, got out with a bag containing RMB 300,000 in cash and was going to the business hall. Suddenly, two gangsters on a motorcycle entered the parking lot. One of them with a gun in hand jumped off the motorcycle and ran to the customer to grab the bag. With the bag tightly held in the arms, the frightened customer ran towards the rare gate of the sub-branch. Seeing that, Lin Jianping, who was on duty, rushed to block the gangsters. He protected the customer with his body to help him enter the safety zone of the rear gate, and shouted, "Stop! Don't you dare rob at the gate of Bank of China!" The malevolent gangster then threatened to fire at Lin Jianping and asked him to back off. At the gunpoint, Lin Jianping was not frightened. He glared at the gangster and went on ordering him to stop. Covered by Lin Jianping, the customer entered the passage, and Jiang Hongguang, lobby manager of the sub-branch, came to help. The gangsters ran away, shocked by the courage of Lin Jianping. Soon, police of Jieyang caught the criminal gang of 5 in late December, 2007 according to the clue provided by Bank of China and captured three Type 64 imitation pistols and one bead pistol.
The heroic behavior of Lin Jianping shocked the local people. Lin was awarded the title of Bank of China Guangdong Branch Safeguard. Over the last few years, Bank of China Guangdong Branch has won such titles as Customer Satisfaction Leader in Bank Service of Guangdong Province, Top 100 Competitive Enterprises in Service Industry of Guangdong Province, The Favorite Bank Among Customers in Guangzhou, The Most Popular Bank Among Customers, Guangzhou Civilization Enterprise, and Guangdong Civilization Enterprise. Among employees of Bank of China, Lin Jianping is not the only one to step forward to protect customers in time of danger. On September 13, 2006, when a gangster armed with a knife rushed into the outlet for robbery, Huang Xianfeng, director of Yangjiangbeilu Office, Bank of China Yangjiang Branch, also stepped forward and fought with the gangster for four minutes until the gangster was caught by police. As a result, Huang Xianfeng was honored with National May 1 Labor Medal.
