A grand opening ceremony for Growing with Olympic Games: Bank of China Olympic Summer Camp 2007 was held in Bank of China Head Office Building in Beijing Xidan Business Area on August 7. It is the second consecutive year that Bank of China holds the summer camp for teenagers with the theme of promoting Olympic culture and spirit.
According to staff of Bank of China, different from the last selection, it is a nationwide selection of camp members this year through a four-link online competition including Olympic Games ABC, Fuwa Sports, Young Wealth Manager and Olympic Theme Show. Of the nearly 5,000 teenage candidates from all parts of China, over 80 excellent teenagers won the qualification for the Beijing camp after more than 20 days of fierce competition.
The camp members from 9-year-old primary students to 18-year-old senior high school students all came to Beijing from every part of the country with their Olympic dreams. Han Pengfei, only 14 years old, flew to Beijing from Tibet by himself. Due to long journey, he arrived at the camp one day in advance. Though the other camp members were still on their way, Han didn't feel lonely with warm reception of the summer camp staff. "It is the first time for me to take a flight. I am so excited and I wish the Olympic Games could start now," said the boy.
At the camp-opening ceremony, Yao Hua, director of Personal Banking Department of Bank of China made a passionate welcoming speech and presented schedule of this summer camp. During the one-week event, campers will take part in many fantastic activities under the Olympic theme, such as visiting the Olympic Games venues, interacting with Olympic stars on site and enjoying other interesting and instructive activities, so as to get a better understanding of both Beijing and the Olympic Games. Moreover, the campers will also visit Tian'anmen Square, Beihai Park, Great Wall and other historic and cultural places, to learn history and culture of China and cultivate their national pride and patriotism. Representatives of the camp members expressed their good wishes towards the Olympic Games and hoped to contribute to Beijing Olympic Games as volunteers in 2008.
Officials of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games invited to the camp opening ceremony said that Bank of China, as a partner of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, has always been supporting the Olympics and it is a good opportunity to promote the Olympics by holding such activities for teenagers.
Bank of China Olympic Summer Camp 2007 started yesterday and will be closed on August 12. It is hoped that the 80 young camp members can get a real picture of the Olympics and love the Olympics through the event to spread the Olympic culture by acting as Young Olympic Messengers in their own hometowns.
