In support of China's Western Development Strategy, Bank of China donated RMB 1 million in December 2005 to the "Love of the Earth, Water Cellars for Mothers" project launched by China Women's Development Foundation, for relief of living hardship suffered by both mothers and children for serious water shortage, increase of farmers' income in the poverty-stricken areas and improvement of the living and ecological environment in rural areas.

The Fifth Anniversary Award Presentation Ceremony for "Moving Mothers - Love of the Earth, Water Cellars for Mothers" was jointly held by the All-China Women's Federation and China Women's Development Foundation in June 2006. Bank of China won the Outstanding Contribution Award for "Love of the Earth, Water Cellars for Mothers", and Li Lihui, President of the bank, was honored with the title of Star of Charity for the same project.
Recently, the Follow-up Action Organization Committee of the project sent the bank the letter (as attached) to extend warm greetings to President Li Lihui and the bank staff and highly praise the bank's great contributions with sincere appreciation.

The All-China Women's Federation
Dear President Li Lihui,
Please accept our warmest greetings for the coming new year!
This year marks the end of the five-year transition period of China' s entry into WTO. While under pressure from overall opening up of the financial industry and the heavy task of the bank's reform, you are still caring about and supporting the development of the undertakings for women and children. Under your leadership, all management and employees of your bank actively participated in the honorable commonweal project - "Love of the Earth, Water Cellars for Mothers". Your benevolent actions not only effectively promote the charity culture and citizens' charity concept but also fully show your bank's perspective of "fulfillment of responsibilities, commitment to society and pursuit of harmonious development", gaining a better enterprise image, forming excellent corporate culture, and making remarkable contributions to the New Countryside construction. On behalf of the benefited people in the poverty-stricken areas, we hereby to express our deep gratitude to you and your staff! Wish you a Happy New Year! All the best to you and your family!
