Bank of China and UN Industrial Development Organization Sign Joint Statement

On November 21st, 2016, Bank of China’s Chairman Mr. Tian Guoli led a delegation to visit the UN headquarters in Vienna to attend the 50th anniversary celebration of the UN Industrial Development Organization and signed a joint statement with UNIDO Director General Li Yong.
Chairman Tian Guoli and Director General Li Yong held an in-depth exchange on issues of common interest. Both parties are willing to work together to promote the UN 2030 Agenda for sustainable development based on the Lima Declaration. Both sides said they will cooperate in the areas of climate change, development of renewable energy and industrial energy efficiency, development of green finance and SMEs. The Bank of China is the first Chinese commercial bank to sign such a joint declaration with the UNIDO.
The UNIDO was established in 1966 as its own task force and as a specialized agency of the United Nations to promote industrial development in developing countries and countries with economies in transition. The organization currently has 172 member countries and is headquartered in the United Nations Center in Vienna, Austria. On December 2nd, 2013, UNIDO reconfirmed its mission, based on the Lima Declaration adopted by the UNIDO General Conference at its fifteenth session, to eliminate poverty on a global scale through inclusive and sustainable industrial development.
